In February, LinkVisum Consulting Group celebrates Black History Month. Black History Month originated from the work of historian Carter G. Woodson in 1926, known as the “father of Black history.” The first iteration was Negro History Week, and by the late 1960s, thanks in part to the civil-rights movement and a growing awareness of Black identity, Negro History Week was celebrated by mayors in cities across the country. Eventually, the event evolved into Black History Month, which was first celebrated in 1970 at Kent State University and officially recognized by President Gerald Ford in 1976.
LinkVisum Consulting Group believes celebrating the achievements and contributions of others has countless benefits. We are all part of a shared history, and we all share common goals. When we take the time to learn about each other’s backgrounds and cultures, we better understand how we are all connected. LinkVisum believes that Black History is American History.
